The cruise industry is back! And we have been on board P&O Cruises’ newest ship Iona to capture all the action from the brand’s emotional return to service.

Building on our social media campaign celebrating Iona’s arrival into her home port of Southampton and naming ceremony, which had a reach of 30 million, we have worked night and day for the last two weeks covering every aspects of her maiden voyage.

We had the luxury of filming on board for several days ahead of any passengers arriving, giving us access to capture Iona’s stunning interior spaces with a specialist FPV drone crew. We were also able to shoot drone footage of her at sunrise and sunset to showcase her size and beauty.

Working with our in-house team of editors we armed the brand with a series of content ready to go across Facebook, Instagram and Twitter ahead of her setting sail the following week. Idents were designed from the brand’s hastags #IonaMaiden and #backonboard.

We were then ourselves back on board for the maiden voyage this week, as the joy and emotion of welcoming passengers became a reality. We continued to capture a wealth of content and feed it back to our editors to keep the excitement going with newsworthy footage from the week.

As those lucky passengers began to explore each inch of possibilities on board, Iona sailed around the UK visiting her namesake island off the coast of Scotland – where a night-time firework spectacular celebrated this unique new ship.

As the first British cruise ship to be powered by liquefied natural gas, Iona is P&O Cruises’ greenest, largest and most innovative ship yet. And as an Excel class ship, she has a host of unique features including an on-board craft gin distillery, spectacular aerial shows and an infinity pool with breathtaking panoramas.

Having followed her from the very beginning, filming her keel laying in the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany back in 2019, and having been involved with the cruise industry for over ten years, for the Stepping Stone team personally it has been an incredibly special campaign to have headed up.

For all those loyal passengers it has been a long wait, but from what we have seen, worth every second. Congratulations P&O Cruises, Iona is sensational!
